We had Christmas Saturday night, because he had to fly out with the team Sunday morning. We did talk for almost an hour just about Clemson and I thought some things were worth passing on. Nothing ground breaking but some things interesting.
1. Dabo wasn’t happy with Burch. He said Dabo isn’t someone who usually gets upset over where recruits decide to go, but the way this played out had him fairly angry. That ship has sailed
2. Now let me start by saying our coaches are always confident, but they’re extremely confident going into this game. They feel Clemson is the best team in the country and it’s not all that close.
3. Venables isn’t all that impressed with Fields. Venables said he struggles to read defenses and most of their passing concepts are only half the field. Also said Fields isn’t able to check to other plays at the line of scrimmage. Almost all checks come from the sideline.
4. He talked about how great a recruiter Jeff Scott is (we already know this), but he didn’t seem to be impressed with Scott as an OC. Said he would need to hire a good offensive mind for them to be successful. Said his attention to detail when it came to recruiting was Daboesque.
5. Raved about Tony Elliot. Thinks he’ll be a big time head coach one day. Said he was brilliant and great communicator. Also said we have some tricks up our sleeve for the playoff.
Again none of this is ground breaking. I just found it interesting.
Last time he was this confident they beat OSU 31-0.....
