This morning Robbinsdale, Minnesota's own Jaxon Howard earned an offer from Ryan Day and the Buckeyes. Howard is a class of 2023 TE/DE who comes in at a very desirable 6'4 225 pounds. It is often very rare to see guys from Minnesota attract the likes of Ohio State's staff so early in the process but Howard is an elite athlete who brings exceptional speed and size for someone of his position on both sides of the ball.
Stereotypically, at the high school level good coaches want to get the ball into their best players hands. Well that is absolutely the case with Jaxon Howard, and Robbinsdale Cooper High's offense, he can be seen lining up at a variety of positions from the regular TE split, to all the way to playing outside against opposing teams #1 CB's. Being only a sophomore and being granted this type of respect by opposing teams is a very good indicator of what is to come. As well, for such a large frame it would be almost unfair not to note his agility for a TE. Howard could be seen in a variety of games out of the backfield receiving dump off passes and hitch passes off the edge. Now this is also quite rare for a TE at the High School level as when you are dumping off the ball you usually want to get it to players who can make linebackers miss as those will be the guys making first initial contact if the O-line completes their assignments. Coaches would not normally do this but because of his elite ability to make players miss and to turn even broken plays into positive yards, Jaxon Howard gets the ball in all aspects of the game. Finally, I did state he is also a DE but his future is as a Tight End and that is what Ohio State will continue to hone in on.
What also is interesting to note, is Howard is a dual sport athlete. For many who followed the Tywone Malone recruitment they'll know that sometimes kids truly do put more stock in schools that give them dual offers. Now I can not comment on the level of baseball skill Jaxon Howard has but from a recruiting side of things he is one who has been said to want to play both sports at the next level.
Will follow this one closely and provide more info as it comes.
