Spoke to the rarely heard from First Wiseman --here is what he had to say...truly INCREDIBLE story...

"You probably won't believe this. But OSU compliance's incompetence has probably cost OSU a top recruit. How in the world could this happen? Follow with me if you will...

a couple of months ago OSU compliance came down with a directive to the OSU football staff. According to their reading of the current NCAA rules--specifically an amendment made post 2017 season---the OSU football team was told they are "hard capped" at 25 signed scholarship players in a calendar year.

Clearly this didn't affect OSU in the last recruiting cycle(as they signed less than 20)--but the staff was being told "25 and no more".

Immediate response from the football team was disbelief, but OSU compliance dug in and held strong on this point. This is where losing an Urban Meyer really hurts, as he wouldn't have stood for this--whereas Ryan Day is a little more inexperienced and trusting....

Net result is for TWO months OSU football operated as if they go only go to 25....so communication with some kids(one in particular) got limited--and it looks like he is headed elsewhere...

Finally--after a lengthy exchange of paperwork and review of the rules, OSU compliance figured out that they were WRONG..and that the "hard cap" prohibition does not apply......

Total incompetence if you ask me---and it falls squarely at the feet of Gene Smith and his administration....As he is the ultimate authority and the guy who vouched for OSU compliance’s initial review of this rule..

true story...sad...but true...."
