I very much would have preferred another Tennessee or Oregon performance,.......but Ohio State is going to play for a national championship so I'm absolutely elated even if it was far from perfect.
- Frustrating showing from Chip Kelly. Things were clicking right off the bat and then it went downhill until right before the half. It seemed like they were content running right at the Texas interior FAR too often even though it wasn't working (yes that sounds familiar). When Jeremiah gets bracketed it's almost like Chip/Day panic and lose their minds.
- The screen to Trey was absolutely beautiful. Probably the play of the season. I'm curious what his 40 time will be. Dude can fly.
- The offensive line was not so hot today. Fryar especially seemed to struggle. Luke got destroyed a couple times too.
- Wayyyyy too many penalties lead to wayyyy too many third and longs. That's a problem.
- I get why Jeremiah wasn't productive. Again, they were clearly bracketing him and the skycast feed definitely showed that.
- Egbuka and Tate were mostly solid other than Tate's drop on the opening drive.
- Trey and Quinshon both ran hard. I feel like they could have gotten Trey involved a bit more in the second half. It was nice to see him bounce back after the dumb penalty.
- Running back blocking was elite early on. I didn't notice it as much in the second half though but maybe I wasn't paying attention.
- Will wasn't great. The one early completion he had to Tate probably should have been picked off. The interception he threw was another bad one.
- The turf monster bites Will Howard more than any player I've ever seen at Ohio State (that long run on 4th down was still pretty awesome though).
- Even though it took two defenders, props to the Texas secondary for how they handled Jeremiah today. I'll give credit where credit is due.
- That play by Jack Sawyer is going down in history. My lord was that frickin awesome. He was abusing the Texas tackles all night. Can't wait to see his 56.2 PFF score.
- Props to Downs, Ransom, etc. who got the RB for a 7 yard loss on 2nd and goal from the 1. We can't let Jack's ridiculous play completely overshadow another game-changer.
- Overall the defensive line was awesome again. Glad to see JT doesn't appear to be seriously hurt. Kenyatta looked fine when he was in the game too from what I could see.
- Ewers was uncomfortable for most of the game. His numbers weren't terrible but he was not good today (the UT offensive line didn't help).
- I love the batted balls by the defensive line.
- Caleb Downs had a touchdown-saving tackle on a long play to Ryan Wingo. JT then ended the drive with a sack. Zero points. Huge.
- Sonny made a nice play causing the incompletion to the tight end. Him isolated against a RB isn't a matchup I want to see too often though.
- Did anyone notice the defense seeming confused a few times and trying to call a timeout? I noticed it a few times and the refs didn't give them the timeout. I don't think Texas got any big plays but there was definitely a bit of confusion.
- Defense is elite.
- Nice punting performance too!
