I am, like most everyone else on this board, thrilled with the excellent additions to our defensive coaching staff. And I have no doubt that our defense will improve substantially -- eventually.
My question is how long will it take?
There will certainly be changes to scheme, and philosophy. There will also probably be significant changes to technique and responsibilities for position players, requiring both learning and un-learning.
As talented and as football savvy as our players may be, there will clearly be a transition period before they can play instinctively and naturally.
Is it reasonable to expect them to be past the mistake-prone stage by next fall?
