As I mentioned yesterday in the thread about Tim Walton being hired, a former player of ours at Vanderbilt, Tre Herndon signed with the Jags as UDFA in 2018 and has been with the team ever since.

Tre is obviously then very familiar with Tim Walton, so yesterday I hit him up when the news broke and he was more than happy to hop on the phone today and talk to me about what the Buckeyes are getting in terms of a coach and person.

Some highlights from the Conversation...

As a Person...
"Great Guy all the way"
"Big on relationships"
"Treat everyone right from the janitor to the boss, he always told us you never know how your relationships today can affect your future."
"Well respected in the building, throughout the chaos he was always well respected by everyone."

As a Coach....
"Very detailed, knows how to relate, knows how to teach, big on technique."
"Big on teaching the game, but big on teaching life lessons."
"Big with rookies, always talking about setting them up for the future. Talks to them about money, real estate, use that money early in a smart way for the future."
"Definitely a players' coach, more of a mentor than a coach."
"Always made dudes comfortable to talk to him about things outside of football. You know how the season grind is, he would always make sure we dedicated 10 minutes in meetings to talk about things in the world, dealing with money, anything going on in our lives."

As a recruiter...
"If I had Walt sit down with my parents, I know it would go great."
"He knows how to relate, he knows the process."
"He knows guys are different, he knows they react differently."
"He is all about mentorship, building young men up, and preparing them for the league."

As you can see Tre couldn't say enough great things about him. He credited him with so much, from helping him on the field to helping him off the field, said he even helped hook him up with a couple real good real estate deals. Said he was no doubt the main reason he signed back in Jacksonville this past year on a one year deal.

We didn't get into anything else from the season, just in case anyone was going to ask haha 😆 .
