Riddle me this Batman - this is some of the logic coming out of E-SEC-PN anal-ists.

Oklahoma gets called out and criticized for "finding itself down by 20+ points" - on the road - to undefeated Baylor and having to rally in the 4th quarter to escape with the WIN - so they are clearly a very long shot to make the playoffs.

But Alabama gets applauded for a "remarkable comeback" with "Tua who wasn't completely healthy" - having to rally from being down by 20 points - at home - to a 6-point underdog to escape with just a one TD LOSS? So they're still "very much in the discussion" LOL.
In their minds this line of reasoning makes perfect sense.

Georgia lost at home - ugly - to an UNRANKED 25-POINT UNDERDOG currently sitting at 4-7 - not a single person brings up that point. The loss is completely ignored and UGA is "a lock" of being in with a win over LSU" or maybe even a close hard fought loss to LSU in the SEC CG. In past years ANYBODY who lost at home to a 3+TD 4-7 team would be nothing more than a fringe discussion team and quickly dismissed from playoff consideration.

Oregon gets penalized for (1) having a weak schedule and (2) losing at the last second to Auburn in a game they led the entire time and had none of their WRs able to play because of injuries
But Alabama (1) has a much weaker schedule than Oregon and (2) got spanked at home by a 6-point underdog - which happens to be the ONLY team they've played that even has a winning record - in a game they were clearly outplayed in every aspect and were never really in?
But AL is #5 and OR is #6
This again makes perfect logical sense.
