I know there's a lot of talk this time of year about replacing guys that depart. We know we are losing massive talent/experience in the secondary. And on offense, we have to replace a great back and some of our amazing OL.
But look at this year's team. As great as they were - and they certainly were - they didn't have that one dangerous guy that we usually have on offense. We had BALANCE. An outstanding OL, a great RB, a ridiculous WR crew and a young QB that's a coach's dream ... not to mention a great coach. But as good as they were, they didn't really have that one monster home run hitter that we usually see in Columbus. Nah. Instead, they did it as a team.
In the last 15 or so years, we've seen what Teddy Ginn can singlehandedly do to change a football game as a WR and returner. We enjoyed him for three full years. Literally, every time he touched the ball, there was a chance to score. USC kind of had this with Reggie Bush. After as well as overlapping Ginn, we had Beanie. Not only a power back that you could run the entire offense on, but a power back that could take it to the house at any moment.
Fast forward and we've had guys like Braxton Miller, Jalin Marsall, Curtis Samuel and Parris Campbell. All guys that had speed and the ability to make you miss. All guys that were legitimate scoring threats anywhere on the field.
As good as this team was, it sort of didn't really have a Ginn or a Campbell type. They were just balanced and beat the hell out of you on both sides of the ball.
We know that it will be tough to COMPLETELY replace Dobbins and the OL losses next year. But is there a guy on the roster now that could add that oddly missing element next year?
