Last week I was asked when I thought Ohio would legalize for adult-use. I said it would likely be 2022 (at the earliest) as it would be a huge challenge to get an measure on the ballot for 2020. Well, a group in Ohio trying to get enough signatures (443,000 by July 1) to qualify for the 2020 election. That is a very steep hill to climb, and given the timeline it will take a lot of money.
I know one of the attorneys working on the campaign, and he is quoted in the article as saying they aren't disclosing who is supporting the effort. I find that troubling as funding sources were a big issue with the failed 2015 initiative. On its face, this measure looks much better than last attempt, but I see the non-disclosure of who is backing this to be a bit of a red flag. I expect they will disclose the backers, but secrecy isn't a good look.
Fast forward to November - if this measure makes the ballot, I expect it to pass. I also expect it to help the Democrat Presidential nominee as this will be a big get-out-the-vote issue weighted toward the D side. With Ohio's importance in the Presidential election, this is a big deal.
For all of you Ohio residents - will you vote for or against this measure? Why?
