This board has always amazed me in the past, so let see what kind of experts we have.
2012 Ford F-250 with 6.7 Diesel engine.
I was towing my 5th Wheel Travel Trailer this weekend when I got a low oil pressure warning ⚠, the engine starting making a clanking noise, and completely died before I could get pulled off the road.
The oil pan has a hole in it and oil was everywhere. I got the truck towed in to a mechanic and they speculated I had thrown a rod.
1. Any advice on replacing the engine? Where to find the best remanufacured engine? What to look for, etc?
2. I recently had a fuel injector and the turbo replaced? Could either of these repairs done incorrectly have lead to this problem? I thought the truck was in great shape after those repairs.
3. What could have caused the engine to throw a rod? Not sure if the low oil pressure was a result of the rod being thrown or if the low oil pressure caused the rod to be thrown?
I’m expecting the total damage to be $10-$15k. Trying to realize how fortunate I was that this issue happened about 10-miles from home instead of 300 miles away, and that I had friends that were able to come to my rescue by towing my 5th wheel to a storage place, but losing $15k in a matter of minutes is still pretty difficult.
Thanks!
