ever wonder who is doing well, and who isn't doing so well??
There are some subtle clues you can look for that can tell you the story---and that go beyond "who gets his black stripe removed first, second or third"...
1) Where is the player living?
All freshman football players are required to live in the dorms their first academic year---but if you watch to see who moves off campus the first, it can tell you a lot.
I was singing the praises of JT Barrett for a long time before he ever set foot on the field---and one of the reasons that I knew that OSU was extremely high on him was how quickly he was allowed to move out of the dorms(he was first, or one of the first).
Likewise, when you see a guy get moved back INTO the dorms after his freshman year(see Carter, Chris) then you know the player is on a short leash---and that is a problem.
If you know when a guy moves off campus, you can pretty much follow his trajectory.
2) What is his number?
Single digits are for ballers. And if OSU thinks highly of you they will allow you to move to a single digit number.
Conversely, if you screw up---then the FIRST thing they will look to withhold from you is your number.
Right now Jalin Marshall has asked to move to #7 from #17....permission was granted---then he messed up---and he wont find out until media day this weekend if he has done enough to redeem himself to earn back his number(I think he has)
If you see a player get or lose a single digit---then its usually telling you something
3) Does he wear a visor? When Meyer came in he removed all the visors from the helmets. The only players that get to wear them are the ones that OSU thinks very highly of.
One of the reasons I was on the Michael Thomas train before others, was OSU's willingness to let him wear the visor in practice---I knew that they would only do that if they really really liked the kid.
Coffee is for closers---Visors are for ballers.
Learn it. Know it. Live it.
