COLUMBUS (July 9, 2018) – Two Columbus basketball legends today announced plans to team for the first time ever.
Former Buckeyes and All-Americans Jared Sullinger and Greg Oden have agreed to join Team Scarlet & Gray in The Basketball Tournament (TBT)- the $2 million, winner-take-all summer basketball event to be broadcast live on ESPN.
Sullinger, a Northland High School graduate, played for The Ohio State University from 2010-2012. A two-time Associated Press All-American, Sullinger was a first round pick of the Boston Celtics and played five years in the NBA. He returns to Scarlet & Gray for the second straight year after leading theteamtothe semifinals last year, and was subsequently named to TBT’s 2017 All-Tournament team.Sullinger spent this past season with theShenzhenLeopards of the Chinese Basketball Association, where he averaged 30.1 points and 16.6 rebounds per game.
“Jared is finally healthy and showing the world what he’s capable of on the court,” said Scoonie Penn, head coach, Team Scarlet & Gray. “When Buckeye and basketball fans see him play in person, they will quickly remember why he was one of the greatest Buckeyes to ever wear an Ohio State uniform.”
Oden, who helped lead Ohio State to the 2006-2007 NCAA Championship game, was the first pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Oden most recently played with the Jiangsu Dragonsin China where he averaged a double-double.
“Greg Oden was one of the most imposing players to step foot on a Columbus basketball court,” said Linda Logan, executive director,GreaterColumbus Sports Commission. “It’s great to see Greg feeling good and able to get back on the floor for Team Scarlet & Gray.”
