The lousy Ohio weather gave me time to think about the depth chart. There are others but these guys will have my attention during spring practice.

Baron Browning-Marc Givler thinks the former 5-star recruit’s best spot is outside LB. How Browning is used will provide a glimpse of the philosophy of new position coach Al Washington.

Benjimin Victor-listed on a couple of way-too-early depth charts as being behind Austin Mack at the X receiver spot. If Brian Hartline continues to use “receiver by committee” strategy, Victor should get plenty of opportunity to shake the inconsistent label.

Demario McCall-still not clear whether he backs up K. J. Hill or J. K. Dobbins or both. Showed signs, when healthy, that he can be effective at either spot. Speed makes him an attractive special teams option.

Rashod Berry-speculation persists that Berry has gone back to DE. Seemed to make progress at TE behind Luke Farrell. The move may mean that Jeremy Ruckert is ready to show his talent because the cupboard is not bare at DE.

Jashon Cornell-took advantage of his bump in time after Bosa got hurt. If Berry moves then Cornell may shift to a crowded DT spot. His ability to play all the DL spots may increase his opportunities.

Amir Riep-seemingly has been a productive special teams member but did not get the chance at safety that Wint, Pryor and White did. May switch to corner. Hard to tell whether he has underachieved or been out played. Third-year guy who needs to make a statement.

Isaiah Pryor-began last season as the starter at safety and apparently struggled. After getting injured, never regained his starter status from Brendan White. Probably needs to beat out Josh Proctor for the third safety spot, which may be a tall task.

Antwuan Jackson-Urban Meyer didn’t bring in JUCOs to sit, which is what Jackson did. It wasn’t disclosed but injury may have limited his time. The challenge remains at the nose tackle position. Landers, Hamilton and Togai proved to be more than capable.

Nicholas Petit-Frere-the only redshirt freshman on the list. If the needed weight is gained has a great chance to beat out Josh Alabi for the other tackle spot. The former five-star evidently has the skill set to do so. Alabi will be no pushover. Started and did well at the Rose Bowl.

Marcus Williamson-the forgotten corner. Started the season in the two-deep but got hurt and lost his time to Shaun Wade. Arnette returning didn’t help his cause but a healthy spring should clarify his status.
