In what has been a whirlwind few months, a chapter of my life has come to a close as my internship with BuckeyeGrove has come to an end.
This past year has included some of the best memories of my life, and I was able gain experience that will benefit me going forward. From learning the ins and outs of covering a major collegiate team throughout a game week to writing stories in the press box hours after a game has ended, I have been able to do things that I could have only dreamed of a few years ago.
What made the experience even more memorable is that it came at such a unique time in history. In terms of football, Ryan Day and the Buckeyes were replacing one of the best coaches in the school’s history in Urban Meyer, and there was a lot of ways that the season could have gone. The Buckeyes were able to put together one of the more impressive regular seasons in school history, and I got to watch in person Chase Young, Justin Fields and J.K. Dobbins put together historic seasons.
While the football season had exceeded my expectations with getting to travel out to Arizona for a Fiesta Bowl that has sparked much debate since its conclusion, the experience I had at the Big Ten Tournament will be what I remember most. Sitting in the stands at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse as the world of sports began to shut down due to COVID-19 was one of the most surreal experiences of my entire life and something I will never forget. While this internship is undoubtedly about gaining work experience, I remember Kevin telling Braden and I that it is also about accumulating stories and memories. The trip to Indianapolis in March will certainly be a story that I will hold on to.
This experience has been so great, and I will forever be grateful to Kevin for the opportunity he provided me. He was able to provide Braden and I with great guidance and mentorship without restricting our abilities to be creative. I am proud to be one of Noon’s goons.
As for the website and its members, I appreciate all of you for reading my articles over the past year. It really means a lot to put work into something and know that people are seeing it. Like Braden said yesterday, I will make sure to stop by from time to time to discuss Ohio State and Cleveland sports with all of you (hopefully there are new games and seasons to discuss).
Thank you Kevin, Braden and everyone who has helped me or read my stuff over the past year, and I hope the next pair of interns can have as great of a time in this position as I had.
