Was speaking to the Fourth Wiseman and had asked him the question "what makes Coach Mick so successful and what singular thing can you point to that is different that under previous administrations?"

I found the answer to be quite interesting....

"Coach Mick is an interesting guy. Lots of people want to talk about him and what a great motivator and strength and conditioning guy that he is---but I think that only touches a fraction of what his real talents are.

At his core, coach Mick is a "data guy"--and as such, everything has become about measuring "baseline" data(starting points) and measuring them against current data(ending points) and tracking the trends.

More simply, its not just about getting Player X to lift Y, or Player Z run 4.X in the fourty(More of a Coach Lichter combine trainging kind of thing)---but to examine where Player X is starting with body fat, weight composition, overall speed, flexibility, nutrition etc...and plot those as beginning points--and seeing how they can increase those over periods of time.

That is why you end up with the famous "Josh Perry before and after photos" that OSU is so fond of sharing in social media.

Parents and high school coaches want to see---above all---improvement and development in their players/children. And Coach Mick's emphasis on finding their starting points and measuring the data has been so well marketed.

Nutritionally he took the training table from three days a week---one meal a day---to five days a week two meal per day. And then allowed the kids to prepare a box and take things home to eat(small thing--but huge to the players) The vendor that used to cater the training table was immediately fired and replaced with a full time chef that prepared nutritionally complete meals. And the full time nutritionist would prepare meal plans that include "red light" and "green light" items for players either looking to gain weight, lose weight, etc etc etc

but even in this area, Coach Mick is obsessed with the data---and is constantly tracking caloric inputs and outputs, measure against baselines pre workout and post workouts. etc etc etc

so to answer the question---I would say that Coach Mick is a guy that understands that the basic driver of human behavior is being able to give people an accurate idea of how they are doing---a plan to improve on said behavior---and a way to measure that improvement.....

that's the "magic" of Coach Mick....not the weights---but the numbers....."
