Coaches are going to demand a solution to constant free agency. It is right there and, as usual, it is the NCAA that is standing in the way. Contracts. The NCAA didn't want to do it 3 years ago and created the messed up NIL situation. But at this point it is already happening but with no clarity since the school and the player can't negotiate with each other. With a contract you could establish terms and each side would know what the rules are and how long the length is. I think most would be two years long. I don't think the teams or the players (who have the leverage) want 3-5 year agreements since it is a crap shoot how things will go and how a player would develop. But I think colleges like Ohio State could get two-year contracts where there is some roster certainty year-to-year.
I also think the redshirt year will have to go away. I don't think it helps anyone at this point and wouldn't hold up in court.
I'm not sure if there can even be a limit on how long a college player can play. I don't think that would hold up in court either. I think the NFL may step in at some point to say that a player has to declare after so many years or will be penalized. I'm not sure it is good for anyone to have a college player in their 10th year.
