I mentioned in another thread I applied NFL QB rating to college football and ran linear regression so that each CFB season has its own unique baseline. Since the NFL QB rating was created in the 70s and applied to a 10-year period from before then, the "league average" baseline has never changed which makes it a little misleading to compare QB seasons across different eras. So I took the passing statistics of every college football season for the four components (completion percentage, yards per attempt, TDs per attempt and INTs per attempt) and applied a 5-year overall average to the formula, replacing it with a linear regression by year.

Using this replacement baseline and keeping the formula otherwise the same, here are the top 25 seasons for Ohio State football since 1968 using NFL passer rating as the standard. I'm including any season in which a player started at least one game and had at least 100 attempts.

1. Justin Fields, 2020, 143.0
2. Cornelius Greene, 1974, 125.4
3. Justin Fields, 2019, 122.1
4. Kenny Guiton, 2013, 120.0
5. J.T. Barrett, 2014, 118.0
6. Bobby Hoying, 1995, 117.1
7. Dwayne Haskins, 2018, 117.0
8. Troy Smith, 2006, 114.3
9. Joe Germaine, 1996, 110.1
10. Terrelle Pryor, 2010, 109.8
11. Joe Germaine, 1997, 109.6
12. Braxton Miller, 2013, 109.5
13. J.T. Barrett, 2017, 109.2
14. Troy Smith, 2005, 108.9
15. Art Schlichter, 1979, 107.9
16. Todd Boeckman, 2007, 107.2
17. Jim Karsatos, 1985, 107.1
18. Art Schlichter, 1980, 105.0
19. Joe Germaine, 1998, 104.3
20. Cornelius Greene, 1975, 103.7
21. Rex Kern, 1968, 102.9
22. Greg Frey, 1989, 102.0
23. Rex Kern, 1969, 100.8
24. Terrelle Pryor, 2008, 100.5
25. Rod Gerald, 1977, 100.3

Now, the bottom five

Steve Bellisari, 1999, 81.2
Greg Frey, 1988, 80.6
Art Schlichter, 1978, 80.4
Kent Graham, 1991, 78.2
Justin Zwick, 2004, 75.5

If you wave the 100 min. att. threshold, and go with anyone starting a game with a 50 min. att. threshold, here are the three worst...

Joe Bauserman, 2011, 73.8
Rex Kern, 1970, 73.7
Kirk Herbstreit, 1991, 72.3
