Blink-182 to record new material this August with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba

Earlier this year, Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba discussed the possibility of becoming a permanent member of Blink-182 following the controversial departure of founding guitarist, Tom DeLonge. Skiba, who filled in on guitar and vocals for the band during a select few shows, had spoken to Alternative Nation around that time, and when asked about his thoughts on recording new material with Blink-182, he said, "It’s something I would be very excited to do and I’ve known the Blink guys for about fifteen years and we’ve become good friends. Playing songs I haven’t written with Mark and Travis is a blast, so to go in and create music with them would be amazing."

In a recent interview with Billboard—mostly in regards to his score for a recent animated short—Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus confirmed that Skiba is currently on board and that the band will be hitting the studio this August to begin recording new material. You can read an excerpt below.
In the meantime, Hoppus continues with Blink-182. He said the threesome -- with Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba replacing guitarist Tom DeLonge -- will head back into the studio in August.
DeLonge, who left Blink-182 several months ago, recently paired with author Suzanne Young on a series of dystopian sci-fi novels. Each of Young's three books in the trilogy will be accompanied with an EP of instrumentals by DeLonge's band, Angels & Airwaves.
What are your thoughts on this updated Blink trio creating new music in the near future?
