They let us into the Shoe today to watch practice. Coaches clinic is happening, and they get to watch practice on Friday so OSU decided to let us in, too. Was told to expect mostly individual drills, but we actually got to see a decent amount of team work. No shoulder pads, thus no tackling. But here's some of what I saw.

- They're definitely still mixing things up at RG. We saw Tegra Tshabola, Luke Montgomery and Carson Hinzman all get reps with the ones. Josh Fryar only took RT reps. They mixed up Hinzman and Seth McLaughlin at center with the ones, too, but I only saw Hinzman take guard reps as well. George Fitzpatrick got some brief run with the ones at RT. I'm not reading anything into that as it pertains to Fryar's job security. Think it says something about the progress that Fitzpatrick is making, though.

- QBs were spinning it pretty well in the early portion of practice. Devin Brown connected with Jeremiah Smith in the corner of the end zone during a red zone pass period. JJ went up over Denzel Burke and grabbed the ball with one hand. Crazy thing is that Smith made it look routine and people responded like it was normal. It wasn't. Will Howard's first pass of the red zone period was behind the receiver on a crossing route, but then he rebounded nicely with a nice ball to Emeka Egbuka on a corner route for a touchdown. Good touch from both Brown and Howard on those touchdown throws.

Julian Sayin had a couple of dimes during the red zone period, both in the back corner. First one was to Carnell Tate. Second one was to Gee Scott, thrown with pretty good anticipation.

During a later team period, we saw Lincoln Kienholz connect down the field with Jayden Ballard on a PA pass.

Here's my amateur breakdown of the QBs: Brown has the strongest arm, no doubt, but comes off as a one-speed thrower at times. Would like to see him calibrate better on shorter stuff. Howard's accuracy certainly fluctuates, but he seems to handle the short and intermediate stuff better than Brown. Sayin is the best pure passer, but felt like he got sped up some during team periods. Kienholz has some good power at times, maybe some more consistent touch than Brown, but overall is a shade less consistent than the others. At least that's how it appeared today.

They definitely rolled guys through no matter who was out there, meaning you'd sometimes see Brown and Howard out there behind the third offensive line with third-team receivers. So I'll be interested to see how they deploy them on Saturday.

- Bryson Rodgers got flagged for a holding penalty on a screen pass that got Brian Hartline pretty hot, but Rodgers plays with a lot of juice. We'll all be watching JJ tomorrow, but I won't be terribly surprised if Rodgers is the receiver who has the most productive day. Kyion Grayes flashed a couple of times, so did Tate. We won't see Brandon Inniss tomorrow. He was at practice on a scooter with a boot on his right foot.

- Aaron Scott caught my eye a few times in coverage.

- Jordan Hancock had an interception of Air Noland, which I believe is the first turnover we've seen from any of the QBs in the practice windows we've had.

- Last play of the practice was a PBU in the end zone from Miles Lockhart.

You guys… I have a confession. As a die hard Bronco fan I have been reading endless scouting reports and watching endless breakdowns from Qb School, Kurt Warner and other knowledgeable NFL folks as it relates to QB assessment and QB play. I have been doing this because a number of Bronco insiders believe the Broncos might trade up for a QB. Intel has waffled between Payton likes Maye and JJ to Payton would like Maye more to Payton would like JJ more. Unfortunately based on my research on their play and traits Payton typically likes I think Payton would like JJ more and my confession is that I like JJ’s play and hope the broncos draft him. 😰

With conservative men becoming rapidly less desirable and struggling to find women in the era of rising female empowerment, is much of their fear and vocal hysteria about gender and masculinity a sign that they see the end of “traditional families?”

next year?
With some of this years starters moving on, we don’t seem that well set up for success next year.
And people are still worried about this year.

Bobby Carpenter is one of the few commentators out there who actually gets to see most practices as a former player. A few things he noted this week: Hinzman is getting time at guard and sounds like he is the main competition for RG with LM. Bryson Rogers (who he called Noah) continues to play well along with Jeremiah Smith. Smith continues to ‘get’ a starter every single practice. Arvell Reese is a beast. Probably a year away but he is coming on. Schlegel came on and admitted there will be ‘attrition’—made it sound like there is just too much talent and some guys are going to leave because of it.

Idc if I am the only one who cares about Buckeye Hockey(e) on this board. I’ll post about it anyway. I specifically waited until this weekends/week day games concluded to make a thread about this out of fear for jinxing.

Has been fun to watch this program improve over the years and REALLY ****ING sweet to watch them beat TTUN 2 out of 3 night whilst going 3-1 for the season and out scoring them 17-11 in those 4 games.

I wish Ohio State would play TTUN or Notre Dame or Penn State or whoever outside every year because that was fun to watch.

Long and short: the men’s team is ranked 10ish with stats above being against #4ish. They play #2ish in back to back games on 2/24 and 2/25 with the Men’s Hockey B1G Tourney beginning on 3/3 if ya wanna jump on the train.

Choo-choo, Go Bucks.

The Buckeyes will certainly lose some to the portal. Most won’t be too impactful. Where I think it could be impactful is OL. If Tshabola or Hinzman leave it will hurt depth if depth ends up being needed. Also, QB depth could get pretty thin if either Devin or Lincoln leave. I think the players I list are at least possible transfer entries.
