I put in two new FutureCast picks for Ohio State today and wanted to briefly touch on both of those selections and why I decided to do it.
Ohio State's long time top tight end target. As I mentioned in Sunday's Skull Session, optimism around Wolfe is at an all-time high with multiple sources indicating to me that the Buckeyes lead and that a commitment time frame could be sooner rather than later.
Wolfe still has an OSU official visit scheduled of the weekend of June 12th. Just my opinion here, but I'd be a little bit surprised if visits were occurring in June, just doesn't seem like the current landscape is going to allow for that but I'd be happy to be wrong about that.
I think Wolfe could decide even before that date, though if for some reason visits do go on as scheduled, that would certainly be the key date to watch. But right now I'm thinking probably not on June visits which could mean a quicker decision from the nation's top ranked tight end prospect.
Alabama, Tennessee, and Ole Miss all plugging away here still but Wolfe's relationships with the coaches and commits is winning out right now according to several people that I trust.
This one has much longer to go than Wolfe's situation so it is more of a speculative pick. I've grown less and less comfortable having the pick on Washington over the past several months and so that is part of why I made the move. I can't just leave it blank once I've made a pick, if I'm going to make a change then I have to switch it to another school and Ohio State for me is that other school right now.
I'm not totally dismissing the USC smoke as I think the Trojans are in the mix but I also think it is being overplayed a little bit. There is real interest there from Tuimoloau but I think we're going a little overboard with it. This is not a family that makes snap reactions, relationships and consistency are going to be huge here and Ohio State has those things working in their favor.
Marathon, not a sprint, but think OSU has pulled to the lead over the past few months and without getting a visit. So it should bode well for them once things open back. Brian Hartline got this one off to a great start and Larry Johnson has since picked up the ball and run with it just doing what LJ does when it comes to building meaningful relationships with the kids that he recruits and their families.
