The Fourth Wiseman is one of the few guys that can legitimately say they are close with Urban Meyer...

so close that they recently spent time together--and had this to share....

"Meyer already hates retirement. Its just so anti his nature to be sedentary that Coach Meyer is always looking for something to do.

One of the biggest challenges for him is being a "civilian". For example, Fox asked him to come down to the Super Bowl in Atlanta. So he flew down. Commercial. On Southwest. Didn't know how how to line up for the flight or where to go--and felt like a total freak when people would just come up without saying a word and snap photos of him---like he was some zoo animal. Took it well--but misses the private plane and all that goes along with it. I asked him why he just didn't go net jets on his own, and he's too practical to do it. And so it goes.

Talked about the season and he shared some funny stories.

Said the kids are all in too good of condition to physically punish them(ie running stairs etc) so he had one starter that kept missing class --and he wasn't sure what to do with him. Finally, he decided to take his "number" away from him and give him jersey number "48". Kid lasted about 10 minutes on the practice field and finally came up to him begging to have his old number back. Meyer gave it back to him and the kid never missed another class. Kids these days--go figure.

Said one prominent player came to him mid-season and said "Coach, we don't seem like we are having as much fun as Alabama does when they play". Had to tell the kid 1) If you want to go to Bama you are free to transfer 2) who says this to his head coach? Again, kids these days.

Felt like Bosa going down had a way bigger impact on the defense than anyone could really imagine. Said he was the heart and soul of the unit--and it went way way beyond just his play on the field. He was the center of the unit in the weight room, in the meeting rooms---and even his locker was the center of the team. When he went down it was like the air coming out of the balloon.

Questioned one of his own hires--without naming names, said he could have and should have done better on that one.

Had kind words for Gene Smith---even though Smith has had to put real specific guidelines on his interactions with the team and with Ryan Day. Meyer still wants to be involved--and he's trying to give Coach Day his space.

Didn't have kind words for President Drake or a couple of board members.

Said that he could really see himself coaching again....but if he did it would be as a Buckeye....."
