Football Which freshmen are likely to burn their redshirts?

Made some predictions there while also diving into Ohio State's redshirt history under Ryan Day. Thanks to @buckeyewalkon for the question

Does anybody remember Mark Sullivan from the '79 Rose Bowl team?

Watching the 80 Rose Bowl on PAC12 Network and he was a freaking animal.

All of 5'9" but had a sack and at least 1 TFL playing nose guard. I do remember USC Oline averaged 6'8" 380lbs (almost)

The Oline had Munoz, Brad Budde, Chris Foote, Keith Van Horne as players in that game. Bruce Mathews also played

Crazy, exciting game but also a heart breaker.

Position group you’re most excited to see play

@Bill Landis and @AustinWard have done great breakdowns of each position group (sans the specialists #justiceforkickers). Which OSU position group has you the most excited to watch this season? There are a lot of intriguing options. The reasons will be across the board (sheer elite talent, depth, potential/unknown of what the can bring…)

For me the WR and RB rooms are crazy deep with talent. QB and OL have unproven potential that will be fun to watch unfold. That said I’m going with the DL. I’m excited to see the jump they make and their ability to make opposing QBs uncomfortable (sacks, hits, hurries).

Is anyone else annoyed...

Is anyone else as annoyed with the hype for USC and Texas for this year? It's almost reached a deafening pitch. I get these 2 programs are big brands and the national media desperately wants them to return to prominence, but I've never seen the level hype for 2 teams that underperformed the way they did the year prior.

USC may have the returning Heisman winner (not the best player in football though) but major questions on defense even with several portal adds. Grinch has never fielded anything better than just a "decent" defense and often has under performed relative to his talent. Secondary is a major concern for them. Schedule is not kind as they play @ND, @OREGON. November games include Washington, @Oregon, UCLA.

Texas seems even more of a stretch coming off a 5-loss season. They need a big leap from Ewers to be in that next group of programs and also need major help on a defense that gave up tons of big plays. Schedule does them no favors either playing @ Bama, @ TCU, and @ Iowa State. They have a tough November going KSU, @ TCU, @ Iowa State, and Texas Tech.

I think it's conceivable both of these programs lose 3 games. I don't think I've pulled for a team to fall harder than what I am for Texas and USC in '23.

How many offensive plays will there be for the Buckeyes?

The 2023 Buckeyes are loaded with so many offensive weapons what if they have multiple 5 play, 70-yard touchdown drives during the season? It's entirely possible.
The Bucks have 4-5 running backs that could score at any time. As we all know, the wide receiver group has at least six home run hitters that can take a Kyle McCord or Devin Brown pass to the house.
If the offense scores in five plays, there won't be all that many 14 play drives before they lead 35-7.
Our elite players want opportunities...the ball in their hands.

Football Ranking the position groups

Wanted to put a bow on the State of the Position series by ranking Ohio State's position groups based on their 2023 potential and the future outlook. Was actually more difficult than I imagined once I got past the top two. Struggled with where to put QB.

Welcome any feedback, but I'm also curious how you would rank them based on the present/future criteria.

Jim Knowles - Recruiting

I'd be interested in opinions on Knowles regarding his recruiting ability. It seems to me he is a non-factor in any of the recruiting successes the Buckeyes experience. You never hear how he has influenced a recruit to choose the Bucks. Day had to bring in Laurinitis to recruit linebackers even though that is Knowles responsibility. (don't get me wrong, I'll take Laurintis in any capacity any day) We're paying him $2M a year to do part of the job.

If my suspicion is correct and he doesn't recruit, the defense has to be top 5 in order to justify having him on staff. Coach Day obviously knew what he was getting by going after him, but this year he has got to deliver. Any thoughts?

Reactions: GO!Bucks

We keep hearing OSU is very much alive for KJ Bolden

but it still wasn't easy putting this contender ranking together. Buckeyes at No. 2 a month from his pick, at least from what I can gather.
