Brice Sensabaugh Draft Stock

The Athletic's Sam Vecenie, who I really respect as a draft analyst, put out a mock draft on the site this morning that has Brice Sensabaugh as a projected lottery pick (14th overall to Portland):

Sensabaugh is a fascinating process versus results study. On a production basis, Miller is basically the only freshman to have outperformed Sensabaugh so far, as the Florida native is averaging 16.7 points on 52 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3 and 80 percent from the line. And a lot of those shots are tough shots that he’s self-creating in the midrange and knocking down over a tight defender. But … a lot of those shots are tough shots, and that’s a really hard way to make a living at the next level. The process is hard. Only the best of the best can do it. So far, Sensabaugh has been that. But what happens if the midrange shot starts to fall at a lesser clip? He’d still be a great 3-point shooter who can create shots, but the package becomes less enticing when also paired with his defense, which is really poor. Purdue relentlessly attacked him in the second half of a recent game that the Buckeyes couldn’t hang onto late. But on some level, the results are just too good to pass up at a certain point. That point right now for me is here. It could end up being much higher or lower at the end of the season. But Sensabaugh has firmly established himself as a potential lottery pick.

As Vecenie notes, a lot can change between now and March but it's looking like, as with Malaki Branham, OSU may have another surprise one-and-done on their hands.

Looking ahead

@AustinWard I know this is premature and the stories will be coming on some of these topics, but thought I’d ask anyway:
1. Larry Johnson retiring? With his questionable (at best) rotations down the stretch I think a new face is needed in that room.
2. What is the vibe on the QB situation next season? When Fields left, guys like Olave and Ruckert came back with the belief that CJ was special. I’m not sure there is that feeling in the WHAC with McCord.
3. Is there a point this off-season where the strength and conditioning program along with medical staff get questioned after the injury debacle this season?

Projected OL 2-deep and ratings

After going thru the snap counts and 2-deep from this past season this looks to be my estimate of the 2-deep and their 247 rating.

LOT:
-Zen Michalski .9012
-George Fitzpatrick .9111
LOG:
-Donovan Jackson .9900
-Ben Christman .9437
C:
-Matt Jones .9652
-Jakob James .8594
ROG:
-Enokk Vimahi .9400
-Tegra Tschabola .9557
ROT:
-Josh Fryar .8776
-Carsen Hinzman .9300/or Luke Montgomery .9775

With a quick glance it looks like the interior OL should be pretty good assuming Vimahi or a Tschabola make a decent leap. The tackles are very concerning, I do think Fryar showed pretty well as the 6th man this past year but the depth and pieces here are really concerning. Michalski seems to have some good momentum behind him but is he ready for this prime time role at OSU for a team that should have a top 5 offense? Idk about that.

We definitely need a portal OT but I'm not sure the spring period will bring a Bona-fide starter that significantly improves this line like a Knighton would have.

OL Depth

Any word about how the current backups are developing @AustinWard @Bill Landis ? Have heard that Zen looked better and we can see that Vamahi has been up and down but that is pretty much it. What about all of the rest of them? Chirstman was supposed to be good but can't seem to even solidly get into the 2-deep. Hinsman had a lot of hype coming out. A start left tackle is going to be key and sounds like that isn't a sure thing on the roster right now. Interior will also be pretty iffy if Wypler and Jones don't return. Any word on guys stepping up?

Football Analyzing Dawand Jones’ NFL Draft Declaration

Apologies for the scarcity of late. Figuring out this new dad thing. Should be be back into work full swing next week.

Meantime, here’s some analysis on Dawand Jones declaring for the NFL Draft. I think Dawand helped himself immensely by coming back for another year, and think he’s got an outside chance of being a first-round pick. Also think the next man up is pretty cut and dry for OSU.

Buckeye Scholarship Spreadsheet

Currently making a spreadsheet for scholarships for the Buckeyes. The whole COVID season thing makes me super confused as to who is for sure out of eligibility and who isn't.

Also looking at guys from the 2020 class..
Wypler and Miyan OSU profiles say going into this season they were in Year 3 with 4 remaining seasons. Fleming's said Year 3 with 3 remaining seasons. Have no idea how that works LMAO

Any help would be appreciated.

Are You Watching The National Championship?

Are you watching The National Championship?

  • Definitely

  • No Way

  • Don’t really want to, but likely will in the end.

Results are only viewable after voting.

This one is painful. Not only do I feel like we should be there, but I don’t anticipate it being competitive. The talent gap between Georgia and TCU is ridiculous.

I imagine I’ll watch in the end, but I’ve never been less interested and more frustrated about a National Championship.
