Curious where everyone is at because tonight not entirely aside, I felt it coming into the year he is extremely overrated.

His first year was entirely over-aggressive and cost us a Natty with the best QB we ever had.

Year 2 swung too far the other way with vanilla conservatism and couldn’t get off the field when needed.

Before tonight, we had evidence of overmatched teams moving the ball. Tonight, more of the same despite a lot of day 2 draft picks that decided to come back and an all-world transfer.

Day won’t do it mid season and probably shouldn’t, but if we don’t bring home the trophy this year Knowles time should be up. Curious if y’all agree?

Football GAME THOUGHTS: #3 Ohio State 38, Michigan State 7

Really solid performance tonight despite a few hiccups.

  • Ohio State's handling of injuries and availability reports continues to be weird and annoying.
  • I hated the interception, but Will Howard was good otherwise. Nice read when he kept it on the TD run too.
  • Henderson gets the gold star in the backfield today. It's awesome to see how great of a blocker he's become. I thought he was seriously hurt after the one catch. Glad it wasn't anything significant.
  • I thought the offensive line was good today, but Donovan Jackson had a few rough moments in the first half. I believe one of them was on the play when Howard got injured, but I'd have to go back and rewatch.
  • Didn't love the Emeka drops.
  • I've run out of words to describe how good Jeremiah Smith is. It's not even fair at this point.
  • I'd still prefer they let Sayin be QB2.

  • I still think the lack of pressure on the QB is concerning. It was especially noticeable in the first half.
  • Hell of a play by Cody Simon on the 4th down stop.
  • Caleb Downs tackling = great
  • Sonny still looks confused 90% of the time. I'm really worried about how he'll do against Iowa.
  • Awesome strip by Jordan Hancock.
  • Colt McCoy pointed it out on the broadcast, but I have no idea why Igbinosun was giving so much cushion when Michigan State had it at the 12-yard line (the TD play).
  • Very happy to see a Mitchell Melton sack.

I hope everyone makes peace with...

...that after this year you are looking at what could be a much more serious rebuild than intended. All the recruiting misses are piling up and it's time to pay the piper. Would be a good time to make a move at head coach in all honesty. The DL/OL need to be completely rebuilt and that's going to take time. Letting Day be the steward of this program year over year has done a lot of damage, a lot of which has yet to be fully realized. A couple of 8-4, 9-3 seasons are on the horizon no matter who is coaching this team.

Game Thread PRE-GAME/GAME THREAD: No. 2 Ohio State @ No. 3 Oregon — 7:30PM ET on NBC

There is a football contest tonight and I believe I am interested in watching it. Give me Ohio State 33, Oregon 20.

Derrick Harmon scares me but Ohio State’s interior OL has been impressive. Oregon’s linebackers are meh as is its interior o-line.

Excited to see more Jordan Hancock and obviously hoping Sonny keeps it up after a great showing against Iowa.

A Legacy of Heartbreaking Final Drives

What was it, five years ago there was the last drive pass interception against Clemson, then there was the missed field goal on the final play against Georgia, last year there was the painful pass interception at Michigan and now the game-ending play against Oregon.
Okay, there was the very lucky touchdown at Notre Dame to win that game.
These defeats are getting hard to take. The Buckeyes shouldn't have been in those situations but at least they had a chance for game-winning plays. In most cases, the heartbreaking plays were a failure by the players to execute.
Several times in those games, the defense failed to stop the opponent's offense in a timely manner. It was also a fact that the offense could not get first downs that would have run-out the clock.
Great, championship teams perform in the clutch.. This season is not over, there is a lot of football left. If the Bucks can bounce back, and win the final six games, they will likely play in the Big Ten Championship Game. Win that and they will still have a top four seed in the 12-team Playoffs. We'll find out what the team is made of.

Sobering Buckeye Thoughts

I don’t want to go over every last misstep about the game, plenty of threads about that. Andrew’s was solid and I tend to agree with much of his assessment.

The overwhelming and sobering feeling I have is the realization that this team and program doesn’t have that high gear anymore. I can’t even put into words what I mean but I think back to games in the past… Michigan in 2016, PSU in 2017 and 2018, Clemson in 2020, Hell Michigan games for almost 2 decades and Ohio State could be in a game like tonight and all of a sudden they would hit that high gear and just prove in every facet they were superior.

When was the last time we played a great opponent and just snuffed them out? It felt like we did it a lot for 2 decades. We used to be mentally superior on top of being physically superior. Those days seem long in the rearview.

I have always wanted Ryan Day to succeed. He seems like a great person, not the ego maniac Urban seemed to be, but man he has turned OSU into a shell of its former self. We used to come out on nights like tonight and just bludgeon good teams like this. I know we were never perfect, but we sure had high points that seem fewer and fewer.

To try and pinpoint exactly where and what went wrong, I think it’s the trenches. We have never been better at the skill positions. But the lines on both sides have gotten more ordinary year over year since Day took over. This defensive line in particular, filled with talent and experience, was a no show tonight. Been no showing big games for multiple years now.

Sorry to ramble, sleep is eluding me tonight. This one just felt more sobering than some others. All we heard about was this loaded roster. In the end the offensive and defensive lines got outphysicalled. Feels like that’s a serious trend. Season is still undecided, and there is more room for error but from what I saw tonight, not sure if they can find that high gear that used to wipe good teams off the field. Go bucks!

NIL Fundraising Concerts

I saw this announced a week ago and they’ve already raised 3.5 million. Seems like a smart idea. Im sure there’s a handful of Ohio born/based artists and bands that would be interested. An obvious one would be Twenty One Pilots as their lead singer is a huge Ohio State fan and they can sell a ton of tickets. They were just at Nationwide Arena a few days ago. Rascal Flats is another obvious one. Maybe O.A.R. I’m sure there’s others.

Seems like a quick and relatively easy way to raise a few million dollars.

Football GAME THOUGHTS: #3 Ohio State 35, Iowa 7

Some frustrating moments early on, but it was mostly smooth sailing after that.

  • The opening drive was great, but other than that it was a rough first half for Chip Kelly. Hated the 4th down QB run out of the shotgun.
  • Will Howard had an up-and-down day. He had some beauties to Emeka but also made some poor decisions and underthrew some deep balls.
  • He made some nice reads in the running game and ran hard on the designed carries. He missed a few open receivers and there was one play in particular where I wished he had thrown it out of bounds rather than taking a big loss. The INT was bad and again he needs to get better with the deep ball.
  • I thought the offensive line was solid for the most part but Donovan Jackson had a rough showing. He especially seems to struggle against stunting defenders.
  • I love how hard Quinshon Judkins continues to run.
  • Jeremiah Smith is pretty good imo. Emeka had some great catches today. Loved to see him get the trifecta.
  • I wonder what is going on with Jelani Thurman.
  • My favorite play of the game might have been the 4th and 2 play-action pass to Inniss late in the third.

  • Is Tyleik Williams the most important player on the defense? The man is impossible to block. I am sad every time he's taken off the field in favor of the rushmen.
  • I though Sonny Styles had his best game of the season. He was caught flat-footed on a third down crosser early on, but other than that I thought he was pretty good today.
  • The defense did a hell of a job against Kaleb Johnson. Simon missed him once but that's going to happen on occasion against a good back.
  • I'm not gonna fault them too much for the second-team defense giving up the TD run. I hate that Arvell is the guy who missed the tackle though.
  • Ty Hamilton annihilated the blocker on the McNamara fumble to start the 4th

  • I've been impressed with the half-time adjustments and how they come out and look after the break.

WWE thread

So there are two thread today that have veered into some WWE stuff. I have seen a thread on here for MMA stuff so I feel okay making one for this.

@AustinWard and @Bill Landis are fans so I feel like they will approve.

I know it is a divisive thing so spare me with the it's fake stuff. If you don't like it then just stay out of this thread.
