Brian Hartline’s goals

So you’re Brian Hartline. What are your future ambitions? You’ve been promoted to OC, but do you want to be a head coach? I ask this because I think the initial reaction is “of course that’s the plan, that’s how these things go”. But then I think about the opposite arguments.

You’ve done really well in life to date. Successful NFL career. Back in the place where it started for you and a place that you have a lot of affection for. Widely considered the best at what you do in your job. Financially set. Is it REALLY worth it to chase being a head coach? Why not just stay where you are and just be a legend, pulling a great salary and being revered in WR circles.

Honestly? My choice would br option two. Don’t mess with a good thing. Grass is definitely NOT greener on the other side. History shows that few people get the Nick Saban career path, and even he moved around - tried the NFL and didn’t succeed.

I suppose option three is to wait out at OSU, Day leaves and then you’re up next. The downside is that the higher up the ladder you go, the less you get to be involved with the thing you are ELITE at (WR development).

(This is probably to some degree a question about how people on this board approach balancing fame with happiness - not that you can’t have both!)

Football Key takeaways from Jim Knowles after practice No. 6

I'll be writing separately later this week about what Knowles said regarding the jack position, but here's some other stuff from his interview session.

Question - where have all the pressing teams gone?

Where have all the pressing teams gone? I remember Tom Davis, Gary Williams, Rick Pitino, Arkansas team (40 minutes of Hell) team, etc? Do all the players now not want to play that style of ball? I used to love watching pressing teams. I think it could be successful nowadays as most kids are more worried about dunking rather than working on fundamentals like shooting or dribbling. Most times, You are only gonna probably play 8 guys during the game. Have the other 5 players come out and play 3-4 minutes of total pressing and traps and uptempo ball during the game. Would make the other team have to devote part of their practices b4 playing us to work on press breaking etc. The 5 players get to play a little and the other 8 rest and strategize during the time not in the game.

#STUFF The next five days …

I’m heading to Florida with family for a mini-spring break and will be mostly unavailable from now through Sunday night.

If there’s breaking news I’ll pop in but for the most part will be MIA until Monday morning.

Big weekend ahead with a lot of visitors so apologies for missing this weekend but I can’t control when schools have spring break, sadly. I’ll do my best to keep up to date on any of the things that are absolutely pressing.

Best Ohio State Basketball Coach Ever

Who do you think is the best all-time OSU basketball coach? Is it Fred Taylor that won a National Title. He recruited Lucas and Havlicek but his career went south in later years. Is it Matta who took OSU to the Final Four with Oden and Sully teams? Once his recruiting declined, he had some bad years. Was it Gary Williams who turned the program around to hand it off to Ayer’s on his way to Maryland. Was it Elden Miller? His teams didn’t win much even with a team featuring Herb Williams, Clark Kellogg, Kelvin Ramsey. I am putting my two cents in on Matta.

#STUFF Two interesting California WRs hitting campus today ...

Kwazi Gilmer and Xavier Jordan, a pair of 2024 wideouts from Sierra Canyon, are visiting Ohio State today.

Neither have a Buckeyes offer yet but could see at least one of those come on this visit. Jordan is a player that could be a perfect fit in the slot wide receiver spot and I think he's one of those guys that could blow up over the next few months.

Clearly Brian Hartline has options and the momentum with Jeremiah McClellan is real but Jordan is the type of player that could steal a spot—provided he passes the 'interview' on this visit—if other guys want to dilly dally.
