Is the "Brotherly Shove" the solution to our short yardage struggles?

Last year, the Eagles' gimmick play proved unstoppable and has become the go-to of NFL teams in 3rd/4th & 1 situations. Like everyone else, I want chunk plays at all times, but our struggles in short yardage situations over the past few years is well-documented, so that I would gladly swallow my pride to gain a yard to continue drives.

Thoughts?

Merry Christmas to everyone ...

Thank you all for your support of what we do.

I am not going to speak for Austin or Bill or anyone else but I am going to try and not open my computer again until Monday when I get to Dallas so that I can be fully present for the holiday with my wife, stepdaughters and the various branches of my family.

I hope everyone has whatever their version of a Merry Christmas looks like.

Mark Pantoni--Lineman Recruiting

It seems as if the position coaches come into focus for their short-comings for landing 5 star linemen on both sides of the ball...at what point does anyone turn the gun on Pantoni? I mean, all I read was how great him and his staff/Hartline did at landing the plane the other night...yet Seaton de-commits from Colorado, seemingly commits to Maryland, and now hasn't signed anywhere? And this was Frye's problem, according to some?

It might be time to address the inequity that exists and why. For as important as position coaches are, recruiting always has and always will be the job of the entire staff. Especially the guy that posts/reposts cute memes when great skill is landed, yet not so much for the recruiting of the lines. If he is so involved with NIL and things of the like, he is just as guilty as Frye/LJ when it comes to closing deals.

Coaching Question for A. Ward

@AustinWard

1. What are your thoughts on the Parker Fleming situation? Anyone will have a hard time convincing me that he's not a waste of a key position coach spot. Do you think Day would ever look at adding a true LB coach that can recruit to help Knowles - especially since he's having recruiting difficulties of his own?

2. Do you still get the sense that Randall Joyner will be added to this staff in the off season?

Dominick McKinley

FWIW, Tray Scott loves, loves, loves McKinley even though UGA has largely struggled to connect with him. I trust Tray Scott's eval on DL.

LJ was convinced that McKinley was "in" early in the process. But, he's a small town kid who didn't mind the remoteness of College Station. Yes, as reported, "distance from home" is a factor, but it's more of a combination of distance from home + big city. The counterpoint is: NFL teams are in big cities, and you go to college to prepare you for your professional career. People were a little surprised when he committed to A&M. Elijah Robinson is a conman and a grifter, but he's an exceptional conman and grifter. He makes Vince Marrow look like a street pimp in comparison. Evidently, Angie McKinley liked what Elijah was selling. (Again, say what you will about the man's ethics, he's an excellent recruiter and rarely loses a living room battle when Mom is involved. And, no, not in the Josh Gattis / Nicky Jones way.)

His mother is a lot like Monica Johnson, both in terms of influence and ubiquitous presence. Angie McKinley likes LJ. Academics matter to her. She's in education, and the "life after football" argument is important to the family. They're also not blind to finances. UGA thinks that elite players will start recognizing the benefit of being the last 5* standing when the February signing period comes around. Sure, you might miss out on early enrollment (which, not every parent thinks is a great idea for their respective son), but you could maximize NIL as being the biggest fish in a very dry pond.

UGA thinks that Texas might be the leader at the moment. Very good academic school. Both mother and son like Bo Davis...a lot. Bo Davis also has strong Louisiana ties going back to his playing days. But, if he's contemplating Texas, then perhaps the big city issue has somewhat lessened in his decision-making processes.

TL;DR: Ohio State has an outside shot at McKinley. TOSU isn't the favorite, but they're not out of discussion.

Is This Too Much To Ask Re: Our NIL Collectives?

I have had interest in helping out our NIL efforts, even if on a small scale. I got started by first signing up for a monthly recurring donation at the Foundation. I thought I was helping the football team, so I was quite surprised when there was an announcement that the school was now only looking at the Foundation mainly for basketball.

I did donate to the 1870 Society as well, this time as a one-time donation. I don't know what I was expecting, but to me, I have no idea what the money is going towards. I also have no idea if the money has helped us at all. Has it helped us retain players who would've otherwise left? Have we gotten a recruit that we wouldn't have otherwise? How much money has been raised? Are we actually closing the gap with other schools like Miami, Auburn, etc.? While I want to help however I can, it seems weird that I don't even remotely have a clue what the answers are to those questions.

Is it too much to ask to have some transparency here? I would certainly be willing to donate more if I knew exactly what the money was going towards and whether it was actually helping to make a difference. Am I crazy here?

Signing day thread with positive vibes

Very understandable that people are disappointed about some of the recruitments that are starting to fall apart. I was hoping to have ONE thread where people were celebrating the players that we are getting. So I’m creating it here. Post about players you’re especially excited about - understanding that we are excited about all the kids that are committing to OSU. For me:

Payton Pierce is going to be awesome
I think Leroy Roker and Gabr Van Sickle really has a chance to outperform their rankings
Really love how committed Ian Moore has been from the beginning
Mylan Graham seems oddly underrated for a prospect that is so good

Potential ESD Change For The Future

Hello all,

Wanted to get some opinions on this. I stumbled across the 12 Team Playoff model dates next year and saw that the opening round of the playoffs starts on 12/20/2024. How can we expect coaches to put up with all this mess AND prepare for a Playoff run? The answer is we cannot so that leads to changing the ESD date moving forward. You can't move it up as that impacts the regular season and you also cannot move it back as that does not allow kids to enroll early. What I think should happen (and I am not sure if this has ever been discussed) is you eliminate ESD and go back to only having NSD in February. You then allow kids to sign their LOI until X date. I have no idea when that would be. I think that would be a good change though. You allow kids who want to early enroll to sign their LOI in say May or June so the process can get rolling. If not you are unable to enroll early. I also think it would help with all the bag-dropping and flips. I recognize an easy flaw is to say this effectively creates another ESD but imo it would at least improve upon the current recuring calendar. What do you all think?
