Great Interview with Josh Simmons

For those who haven't seen it, Bill and Austin posted a fantastic interview this morning with our newest offensive tackle, Josh Simmons. They talked about everything from why he chose Ohio State (other coaches giving kudos to Justin Frye's skills at developing offensive linemen didn't hurt) to his issues with false starts this past year (he had trouble adjusting to a non-verbal snap count earlier in the year).

All in all, I came away very impressed with Josh, and the interview reinforced my happiness that the Buckeyes landed him out of the portal. And given how well he did in front of the camera, I'd say that he could very well have a career in sports media at the eventual end of his playing career.

Looking for travel suggestions

So I'm retiring March 2024 and a medium size golden parachute comes with it. Girlfriend and I are looking at doing some, for us, life experiences.

Some things we are looking at are combining:

Sturgis, Mt Rushmore, The Badlands
Savannah, Charleston, Outer Banks
Yellowstone. Yosemite, PCH
Catching a concert in Austin, then flying to Nashville to see another concert - or whatever 2 cities pop up
Catching a non OSU rivalry game such as LSU/Bama, OU/Texas
Northern Lights somewhere
Amtrak somewhere.

What have you all done that you liked and are glad you did?

TIA

From the Film Room: Ohio State WR target Jeremiah McClellan

I have a new weekly feature titled "From the Film Room"

Each week I'll break down a selected recruit and then turn on their film to show real life examples of what makes their skill-set special.

The first episode features Ohio State WR target Jeremiah McClellan. Give it a watch and let me know what you think! Thank you.

Bad NFL Advice?

Just thinking about whether some Buckeyes got bad NFL advice. Dwan Jones was thought to be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick. If he would have come back and showed another year of steady work and weight control, could he have made it into the first round? Wypler seemed especially bad. 2-3rd round projection and ends up in the 6th. I think the real question is whether the year of extra work would have changed NFL evaluators minds? I think it might have for Wypler. They may see him as a center only so he would have had to come back and win the Remington to get into that second-round area. Now he is looking at being on the roster bubble/practice squad as a 6th rounder. Getting NIL and better draft position would have potentially might have been the better choice. I think Zach Harrison probably made the right choice. It is possible he would have really exploded next year and gotten drafted higher but the big knock on him was being too linear/stiff and that 3rd round might have been his ceiling. I am not sure that coming back would have made a difference for Cam Brown. I worry that injuries have caught up with him. And I am not sure that Ronnie Hickson would have started here with the way things ended last year. He could have signed up for USC's NIL plan and made some money though. I think the biggest mistakes might be Wypler and Jones. Both probably could have raised their draft stock and been better prepared to make a roster had they returned for one more year. And we wouldn't be in a O-line crisis:)

From J6 to Drag Shows

A great read:

Especially this point about how the locus of violence threatened/carried out by extremist groups has shifted from the 2020 election to drag shows and LGBTQ events:

The @BuckWi03 types will undoubtedly cite his media narratives, call people evil, virtue signal and carry on with the lines his outlets give him.

Smart people can take a step back and see how coordinated and political this "fight" has become. Contained entirely within a bubble of rampant misinformation, accusations they can't support, and the draconian legislation that follows.

Its a cancer.
