Football Tony Alford update

Hey all --

Multiple sources both involved in coaching circles and at Ohio State have indicated that Tony Alford is in negotiations to leave for Michigan. We are continuing to work on updates, but there is a strong sense that the Buckeyes will be looking for a new running backs coach in the midst of spring practice. Whenever a definitive decision is made, we'll pass along whatever we hear.

Austin & Bill: Podcast Daily Tuesday

All the Spring Practice talk has been about how the right-side of the OL will fall into place, with about four or five linemen auditioning for the two spots. Fryar and Montgomery seem to be the favorites for guard and tackle.
It is nice to have returning starters Donovan Jackson and Josh Simmons back on the left side. We'd like to believe those two will improve their play this season and remain healthy for the entire season: a possible 15-16 games. But, what if they regress and/or suffer injuries that keep them out for several games?
While five guys battle for playing time on the right side, who are the linemen battling for backup spots on the left side? Would Zen or Tegra, who are auditioning on the right side be leading candidates for playing time as backups on the left side?
The offensive linemen the last few seasons have stayed healthy and there have been few serious injuries. Are the coaches comfortable with having quality depth should 2 starters suffer injuries? With the right side starters (except for Fryar) in play, how would the line be juggled to get players 5, 6 and 7 ready to play.

TPD - Josh Fryar at RT

Listening to The Podcast Daily now, I understand the point about Josh Fryar getting the opportunity to improve, but also not sure if talking ourselves into "actually he could be a good RT" after one spring practice, when we saw for the better part of a year that it isn't good, and we’ve ALL (including the beat) have been talking about how he should move to guard, is the best idea.

This kind of falls in line IMO with a trend that Bill & Doug identified on their last Kings of Columbus pod, when a lot of this past year all the concerns identified about McCord and QB were sort of met with "well I'm sure it'll be fine, there’s options" throughout the season.

TPD 3/4/24 - Todd Fitch

I could just be missing something, but why would Todd Fitch leaving be a result of Larry Johnson's son being added as an analyst? It seems more likely that he wanted to join another staff where maybe his chances of eventually becoming a position coach and not just an analyst could improve. I don't know what the reason is, but a WR analyst coming in = QB analyst going out is illogical. @AustinWard usually has insight which makes it weird since I'm guessing it was presented in that manner, but it has no logic to it.
