My biggest worry about Day

This is just a theory I’ve had over the last couple of years. It could be completely of base, so feel free to disregard it.

I’ve spent most of my life studying trauma and working with people that have experienced a lot of trauma, myself included. I’m not going to pretend I know Ryan Day, because I definitely don’t. But he has been pretty open about his life and the tragedy he has experienced, most notably his father committing suicide when he was a kid.

Unless they’ve experienced it personally, most people have no clue how drastically those experiences shape people and change how they react to basically everything. Most notably, people who have experienced significant trauma do NOT handle stress well, and tend to freeze up or shut down in those moments.

I don’t think it’s any secret that Day is very quick to tighten up or coach scared. Again today we saw an interim coach be more aggressive and have a more effective game plan than a 5th year head coach. This is obviously not an isolated incident.

The biggest problem is when it’s rooted in trauma it’s not something you can just change. It’s not like you can just decide that you’re no longer going to react that way anymore. It’s not impossible to overcome, but it can be extreme difficult.

In the end, the “why” he is that way may not really matter. But he has shown time and time again now that that is who he is.

I’m not really sure what the solution is. Maybe it’s as simple as handing over play calling to someone else. That was supposedly the plan last off season and we saw that didn’t last. Maybe this game will be what finally causes him to make that move. But I think it’s clear something has to change.

Or maybe we just need a better QB 🫠

It’s definitely one of those two.

Basketball Buckeyes win the Emerald Coast Tournament

Friday night the Bucks whipped No. 17 undefeated Alabama then came back Saturday night to rout 6-0 Santa Clara by 30 points to win the holiday tournament in Florida.
The Bucks were dominate. They looked very impressive. If they can continue on this path they will be competitive in the Big Ten. They might not beat Purdue but they will give the top five teams a run for their money.

The Game

Some of you people need to get a life. We will probably end up 11&1 so get over it. How many other teams would call that a great year? You think this loss doesn't hurt the players an coaches more. So if this loss ruins your life, for the next year I hate to tell you you don't have a life. Grow up an get over it.

Strength and Conditioning?

Michigan averaged 1.9 yards per carry in the first half. However, they averaged 5.5 in the second half. Did we wear down? Did we need to rotate Kanu or others in more?

They did the last drive without their best OL, and yet still held ball for 7 minutes.

Michigan has seemed to get stronger every second half we played them.

We thought it was their cheating, and yet today it was similar. Definitely got stronger as game went on.

THE game prediction

I was in state college on Saturday. First of all, we should be thankful we have Ryan Day instead of someone like Franklin. Fans knew the outcome before the game started. Students left before the 4th quarter started and it was a one possession game ! The only time the crowd was engaged was after a bad PI call.

Secondly, I wasn't impressed. scUM only succeeded because of lack of gap integrity by PSU's DEs and LBs who lost contain.

McCarthy only succeeds when it's a perfect play call or the TE / WR is wide open. He can't put the ball where McCord can and its not close.

If Egbuka plays, we win by 10.
If he doesn't, we win by <10.
Sawyer and JTT can set the edge and, as long as our LBs don't get too greedy, I truly think we'll win.

McCord's performance Sat. night further increased my confidence.

Don't worry, boys. We got this (as long as Harrison or Henderson doesn't get hurt)!

Game Thread GAME THREAD: No. 3 Ohio State vs. No. 7 Penn State ***12pm on FOX

An important football contest shall take place today. Interested to see what the backfield breakdown looks like after Hayden’s solid game. Would love to see Marv give Kalen King the Joey Porter Jr. treatment. Also hoping for 40+ yards from Cade Stover.

I am admittedly fearful of what the PSU ends might do to the Ohio State tackles. Thankfully the Nittany Lion passing game doesn’t have anyone too scary.

I’ve got Ohio State 27, Penn State 17.
