Well crank up the impeachment machine people we have....

a massive Quid Pro quo. Old Joe and Democrats are pissed because OPEC and Saudi Arabia are cutting oil production 30 days before the mid term elections. Rising gas prices obviously hurt dems and so Old Joe threatened them with consequences of not waiting until after the election to cut production.

Football Ohio State collective organization moving forward

COLUMBUS, Ohio – As the Ohio State University Dept. of Athletics enters the third year of student-athletes’ ability to monetize their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), there continues to be evolution in the support and resources provided by the Columbus community. The support that Buckeye Nation has shown has allowed Ohio State to develop one of the most robust NIL programs in the country.

Ohio State’s exclusive multimedia rights partner, LEARFIELD’s Ohio State Sports Properties (OSSP), facilitates collaboration among the Athletic Department and the various Collectives that support student athletes through NIL opportunities.

An update on the Collectives:

· The 1870 Society is proud to be a for-profit Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) collective supporting Ohio State University athletics, and the premier collective supporting Ohio State football in the Columbus market. The 1870 Society gives fans access to exclusive content such as The Ryan Day Podcast, Tyvis Tries and other behind the scenes content. To learn more visit: www.the1870society.com

· The Cohesion Foundation is a 501(c)(3) that unifies corporate leaders, alumni, dedicated fans and charitable organizations to ensure Ohio State student-athletes across all sports can use purpose-driven NIL commitments to positively impact the community. Cohesion Foundation will be the presenting sponsor of the 50/50 raffle at every home Ohio State Football game this fall. Visit www.osu5050.com or www.cohesionfoundation.com to learn more.

· THE Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that has supported the football program and will transition to focusing on Ohio State Men’s and Women’s basketball programs beginning January 1st, 2024. THE Foundation will be the presenting sponsor of the 50/50 raffle at Ohio State Men’s and Women’s Basketball games this coming season. The funds raised will allow men’s and women’s basketball student athletes to participate in charitable functions in and around the Columbus community. Visit www.thefoundationohio.com to learn more.

“Our collectives have done a tremendous job in the Columbus community and with our student-athletes,” said Carey Hoyt, Executive Associate AD. “While we understand NIL can be confusing because it is still new and evolving in college sports, I would encourage everyone to visit the websites listed above to learn more about how to get involved.

“We want to make it as simple as possible for people who want to contribute to a collective or work with a student-athlete on a marketing campaign.” NIL Simplified Link

Corporate partners of Ohio State Sports Properties (OSSP) have engaged in the NIL landscape as they have realized the power of utilizing student-athletes in conjunction with Ohio State marks and logos for local, regional, and national campaigns. Through their partnership with OSSP, these partners can leverage Ohio State intellectual property for traditional media opportunities which can also include the name, image and/or likeness of student-athletes. Recent NIL activations of OSSP corporate partners are included below.

Football GAME THOUGHTS: No. 3 Ohio State 23, Indiana 3

Please share your thoughts, folks.
  • I thought McCord was okay. There were a few plays that definitely made you think he could be the guy. The first that comes to mind was when he moved around, avoided pressure, then hit Egbuka along the sideline. You can certainly tell he has a live arm. Did not like him going the wrong way on what should have been a touchdown and the throw across his body (interception) was bad. The one long ball to Fleming should have been placed a lot better. I'd probably grade him a C+ or so.
  • I wanted to see more of Devin Brown. Surprised we didn't get a few more drives.
  • The left side of the offensive line was a problem. Josh Simmons is going to need to get a whole lot better. I didn't watch the right side very often so I can't comment (I'm also not an offensive line expert).
  • I don't know what the answer is, but hopefully it's just a matter of Simmons getting better. If not then I have no idea if it would be Montgomery or Fryar or moving Jackson to LT or what. They've got a few weeks to figure out (though ND also doesn't have some crazy good pass rush).
  • Right now the thought of Simmons trying to block Chop Robinson is downright terrifying.
  • Never in a million years would anyone have guessed Stover would outgain Marv + Emeka today. He was damn good though. Props to him.
  • Chip Trayanum looks like the best running back on the team. Henderson still doesn't have great vision, but in his defense there were unblocked backers coming right at him multiple times.
  • The RB rotation was interesting. Not sure what was up with TreVeyon in the second half or maybe they just wanted to get the others more action.
  • Julian Fleming was good from what I could tell. He seemed to get a ton of targets.

  • If you had asked me if I'd prefer a 23-3 win or something like 47-37, I would definitely have gone with the former. There's certainly reason to believe the offense gets better. A disastrous defensive performance would have been extremely concerning.
  • The defensive line rotation is still weird and annoying.
  • Mike Hall is elite. I was immediately pissed off when he wasn't on the field for the very first snap of the game.
  • I wanted more pressure. There were a few plays when JT got very close and that seemed to be a common theme last year as well. Had he not been held on the one play, he was going to get to the QB.
  • I may have missed something, but Jack Sawyer seemed to be a ghost.
  • Hero Kanu flashed late when he was in there.
  • Linebackers and secondary were solid from what I could tell. I thought that late flag on Ransom was lame.
  • The Malik Hartford talk was on the money. He is going to be a stud.
  • Indiana's passing game is garbage so it's tough to take much away from this one.
  • The defense gave up 153 yards of total offense. Can't complain about that.
  • Solid job by Fielding.
  • Special teams coverage needs to get better. It's not ideal to have your kicker and punter making tackles.

Portal recruiting with Colorado and FSU success

@Birm, with Colorado and FSU doing well with lots of transfers, could you see OSU and other powers take even more transfers? Especially with NIL. Would you rather pay hundreds of thousand of dollars per year to a high school recruit or someone who has proven they can play college football at a high level. The locker room may accept a proven player getting more money than an unproven recruit. Do you think this will be a bigger trend for top 10 programs?

Football GAME THOUGHTS: Ohio State 35, Youngstown State 7

  • McCord is clearly the guy. I'm glad we got to see a bit of Brown, but he didn't do it for me today. He's certainly more likely to run, but his athleticism didn't really stand out at all. He had a few bad underthrows as well. I'd be very worried about turnovers against a better opponent.
  • Brown did have a very nice third-quarter throw to Carnell Tate where he fit the ball between three guys.
  • The designed Brown runs are a bit annoying. Him constantly trying to run is also annoying.
  • I believe there was a play when McCord had a ton of protection and he too inexplicably tried to run it. (just went back and checked, it was right before the half)
  • Josh Simmons is still a problem. He wasn't bad for the entire game, but he definitely seems to be the biggest weakness on the line. He could have been called for hands to the face on Trey's first touchdown run as well (right after he actually was called for it).
  • I admittedly didn't notice much else on the offensive line. Was mostly trying to watch Simmons.
  • I didn't love Marv and Emeka still being on the field with six minutes left in the game (though I assume this was more or less to give Devin Brown a level playing field).
  • Loved seeing them move Marv around.
  • Cade Stover is a weird blocker. He will completely whiff on some plays and then every now and then he'll have a very nice block.
  • Ohio State ran for 4.6 per carry against both Indiana and Youngstown State. Don't love that.
  • Henderson looked a little better today and I LOVE that they threw it to him a few times.

  • The defense was mostly fine outside of letting YSU drive 75 yards for a score on the opening drive. That opening drive certainly was a problem though.
  • And "fine" against a program like Youngstown State is far from a ringing endorsement.
  • Cam Martinez had decent coverage on that deep third down pass he gave up. But being a step or two behind and giving that up to a YSU receiver isn't ideal.
  • I wish Sonny Styles wouldn't come off the field.
  • The lack of pressure last week was hard to judge due to Indiana running so much option. I didn't notice a ton of pressure today either, which is concerning.
  • Mike Hall is still phenomenal and that late sack was a thing of beauty.
  • I have no idea what is going on with JT and Jack. Will have to rewatch and see if they got close at all.
  • Maybe he played more than I noticed, but the lack of Kenyatta Jackson is a little strange. Wondering if he can provide a boost to the pass rush.
  • Linebackers were good again from what I could tell.
  • Denzel Burke seems to be locked in. That's a great thing.
  • The officiating was mostly bad.

Quarterback Recruiting

As someone who has only paid close attention to recruiting for a couple of years, can someone give me a brief summary of Day’s QB targets since he’s been head coach? Like what did the QB board look like each year? Who were his top targets? Has he ever landed his #1 target? (I know about Ewers and Raiola of course)

Obviously he’s had a ton of success at the position, but since I’ve been paying attention most of the commits have been “plan b” or late risers (Brown, Kienholz, Noland)

Just curious who else he went after in his first few years.

I have a question about our defense....

I was at the game yesterday and noticed during time out when our defense was on the field, there were two separate huddles. One huddle for our defense lineman and another huddle for our defensive backs and linebackers. How can you develop any continuity when the players are receiving separate messages? Am I wrong to be concerned about what I observed?

Philosophy on playing freshmen

I see Anthony Hill Jr, Caleb Downs and Kadyn Proctor all over my tv tonight. Those guys were consensus 5 stars.

What is Ryan Day's stance on playing freshmen? I'm thrilled to see Hartford and Tate play so much.

Inexperienced guys will undoubtedly make mistakes, but growing pains usually result in long-term gain.

What is your philosophy on playing freshmen? Do you defer to more experienced guys because they've "paid their dues"? Do you bet on the talent and live with mistakes?

I love Cade and what he's done for this program, but Jelani Thurman is the most talented TE in the program. Simmons is fine and he'll improve, but I'd rather see Luke Montgomery out there. Guys like Proctor and Martinez have had several years to establish themselves and have not done so. I'm thrilled to see Hartford out there.
