Tough Conversations

It's time to start processing guys. It goes against his nature, but I believe Day will be forced into using the portal more aggressively and extensively. The DTI staff are pros, so I know they'll never mention guys by name or speculate, but I'm not, so I will. Guys like Toutant and Leroux need to go. They were projects who probably should have never been here who haven't developed as hoped. Meanwhile, guys like Jantzen Dunn and Jaylen Johnson, have failed to do anything and have been passed by younger guys.

Rivals100 WR Brandon Inniss locked in with Ohio State and recruiting

Inniss covers his relationship with Ohio State's coaches, which teams are reaching out to him, and which players he is recruiting for the Buckeyes:

Negative Evolution of Day's Offense

Negative evolution = Predictability

1. Immobile QB = QB is zero threat to run, even on read option and RPO
2. Middle of field abandoned = Mesh routes, once a lethal staple, are gone; everything is outside the numbers
3. RB a non-factor in passing game = RB1-2 combined for 47 catches in 2018; 9 this year
4. Lack of receiver depth = 2022 WR1-2 55% of catches; 2018 WR1-2 39% of catches

2022 % of catches by role
WR1 = 29%
WR2 = 26%
WR3 = 11%
WR4 = 4%
WR5 = 3%
WR6 = 2%
TE1 = 14%
RB1/RB2 = 3%

2018 % of catches by role
WR1 = 22%
WR2 = 17%
WR3 = 10%
WR4 = 9%
WR5 = 7%
WR6 = 5%
TE1 = 5%
RB1/RB2 = 12%

Season Thoughts

I know everyone is super upset and that’s fair but what does everyone think about the coaches and this program at this point? I would let day have one more year before “firing” him. I don’t think Fickell would be as clear an upgrade as you guys think. I would like to see day consider giving up play calling… it seems something has happened to him since Alabama that has him shell shocked.

On defense I still think Knowles is a huge upgrade over what we have. I think you need to understand the defense is “safety” driven and clearly our secondary was our weakness all year. I will be interested to see what it looks like with Sonny and say Caleb Downs 👀 back there along with athletic LB (Cj Hicks) out there before I make any big judgements.

Special teams I know Parker Fleming is very respected apparently but my god we have clear problems with special teams. The punt return has been brutal for years.

Some players I am looking forward to next year:
McCord
Jaden Ballard
Evan Pryor
Sonny Styles
Jordan Hancock

Some players i expected more from:
Jack Sawyer
Denzel Burke
Julian Fleming

Let me know your thoughts bottom line this team needs to question its toughness interested to see where you guys think the problems lie..

Do CJ and Ryan Day have a good relationship?

So I saw this the other day and thought it was a bit odd but didn’t think too much of it. But since we’re questioning everything about the program, why not?

If you go to 1:05 he’s asked about his relationship with coach Day and it wasn’t the most convincing indication of a great relationship. At one point he says “we’ve gotten used to each other I’ll say that”. His initial response sounds authentic and then he gives the “correct answer”

Could be nothing but I found it interesting. Combine it with his quote recently about how he didn’t come to Ohio State because of any coaches and I can’t wonder if there’s any tension in their relationship 🤷🏼‍♂️

Soft?

As I said in the last iteration of this thread, soft may not be your term. What would you call this D?

Pushed around yet again. Simple plays lijke a zone read goes 80. Multiple times.

Michigan WRs ridiculously wide open. For TD. Mulitple times.

Poor coaching? Players not following the coaching? Athletes being out played?

Call it what you want but its been there all season. I saw it. You all did too whether you admitted it or not.

What to do now? Where to go from here? It wont be any easier in A2 next year folks.

Soft?

We had battles in threads this past week about tOSU’s D. Did they look stout on D to you?

The D got pushed around again and this time by a team that didnt score but 1 TD in their past 2 games.

So maybe soft isnt your adjective of choice. How would you label this D??
