Football GAME THOUGHTS: #3 Ohio State 20, #7 Penn State 12

That was one of the ugliest big-time wins I've ever watched.

  • Kyle McCord was simply bad today. There's really no other way to put it. Even some of the completions could have gone for bigger yardage had the ball been placed better.
  • I thought the OL was holding up early on; even in run-blocking. It seemed to get worse as the game went on though. Miyan and Chip both averaged less than three per pop. This is still a major concern.
  • The one early sack on McCord was because of a really bad Chip Trayanum whiff.
  • Miyan ran extremely hard even if there was mostly nowhere to go.
  • Just a reminder that Parker Fleming was given a $200K raise and is now earning half a mill.
  • There were still some drops by Marv and Xavier. It's becoming a bit of a problem.
  • Marv schooling Porter Jr. and now Kalen King in back-to-back years is beautiful. I think King is far better than Porter. Marv took them both to the woodshed.
  • I'm not sure about the one holding call on Simmons. I will say I thought he jumped early multiple times and didn't get flagged.
  • Loved the play call on the TD pass to Marv, but otherwise Day was pretty bad again today.
  • On the 4th and goal, PSU had approximately 20 guys to the one side of the field. What does Ohio State do? Throw it to Carnell Tate on that side of the field.
  • The lack of Hayden is still mystifying to me. I don't even care if he gets the bulk of the carries, but nothing at all after last week's performance?
  • I think Ohio State missed Trey today. PSU was blitzing like crazy and a screen or two to Henderson could have done some serious damage (even though Ohio State still doesn't call these as much as they should imo). Don't even get me started on Ohio State's injury reporting. I'll never understand that.
  • I hate that injury for Devin Brown. He's handled the QB battle with class. Interested to see if Gebbia or Kienholz will be next in line (if ever needed).
  • lol @ 4th and 27
  • Props to Manny Diaz. He called a really good game today. The Ohio State offense has some problems, but give credit to the PSU defense as well.
  • Just a reminder that Parker Fleming was given a $200K raise and is now earning half a mill.

  • This defense is elite. Remember The Athletic report this week where multiple anonymous B1G coaches said the Ohio State secondary is a major problem? lolz
  • Outside of a couple 10+ yard runs early on and a few late penalties, I thought the defense was nearly perfect.
  • I'm no expert but it sure seems like Knowles is doing a fantastic job of disguising what's going on
  • I think everyone (myself included) should be done complaining about JT Tuimoloau's stat line. He's been disruptive as hell for much of season. Love how he shows out against PSU. He's a bloodhound when it comes to screens.
  • There were two massive special teams plays that could have been total game-changers. The 72-yard punt was huge. Unfortunately so was Styles touching the ball and giving it back to PSU.
  • Just a reminder that Parker Fleming was given a $200K raise and is now earning half a mill.
  • The 3rd-down defense was especially beautiful. At one point PSU was 0/12 on third downs (I know they converted one on that late drive but I don't really care)
  • Linebackers were a lot better today. There was some confusion on a few of those long runs I think, but I won't complain too much about this.
  • Drew Allar was really bad. There weren't a lot of open guys, but he missed them when they were there.
  • Jermaine Mathews is going to be a superstar.
  • Jordan Hancock impressed me as well. Denzel Burke has been amazing but I honestly didn't notice his absence today.
  • I continue to be incredibly happy for Josh Proctor and all that he's doing.
  • Just a reminder that Parker Fleming was given a $200K raise and is now earning half a mill.

Not too early to thank the Dotting The Eyes guys

Thanks to Austin, Birm and Bill for their thorough and hard work in covering the Buckeyes. They seem to be everywhere, every day bringing us information and answering our questions.
Within minutes after each game they have interviews, comments, reports and analysis both in print and with video....from all over the stadium. You must have the fastest fingers and thumbs on the beat.

Week 7 resume rankings

Going by the CBS Top 130 rankings, these are the best teams, by SOS.

1. Florida St, 55.28
2. Oklahoma, 65.28
3. Washington. 70.57
4. Ohio St, 73.14
5. Michigan, 83.37
6. UGA, 86.57

I'll do the same for Week 8 when they come out later today, if people are actually interested.

I ranked every FCS team at 134, regardless of record for simplicity sake.

OL appreciation thread

I’ll be the first to say that I’m not an X’s and O’s guy, and I haven’t gone back to do a rewatch, so maybe this post is way off base.

All that said, I’ve been truly concerned that the oline was at risk of single handedly costing us the big games this season. Even if we had great WRs, good RBs, and a QB that is decent, I thought it was not unlikely that the OL would get beat so badly that those positions didn’t have a chance to do their jobs.

In the biggest games of the season so far, the o line has stepped up and played their best football. Were they perfect? No. But at no point yesterday or vs notre dame did I feel like the games were close because of a massive failure on the o line. I know that’s a low bar, but compared to my expectations it feels like a huge achievement worthy of acknowledging.

OT -Caleb Williams Want Equity In Whichever Team Drafts Him

Obviously won’t/can’t get it. I wouldn’t draft this dude at the top of the draft. I cannot imagine the headache him and his people will be, simply won’t be worth it. Maybe I’m wrong but man the dude just gives off awful vibes to me.

Here is a policy Brandon can put in place

That just might help with his numbers…

All this Fentanyl that is flooding this country killing 1000’s multiplied is being produced from the same country that caused the Pandemic, CHINA…
Slap some heavy tariffs on them forcing them to clamp down on the chemical company ones within China to stop producing the lethal drug…
Oh and also SECIRE THE FRIGGGIN’ border will help as well in decreasing the flow of Fentanyl into the country…

Text subscriber question

I’ll start off by saying that I know that the podcast and presumably the text subscription service is independent from rivals, so I apologize if this is not the correct place to post, but I’m not sure where else to do so.

Personally I’ve heard reference to multiple polls that I never received via text service, and it sounds like there were a bunch of texts sent out today that I never got based on other threads here. I get technical glitches and I assume this is being worked out… but is this getting looked into? I don’t want to be paying for something where I’m missing half the stuff.
