Kenny Guiton off to a good start as OC

First game as (interim) OC this week. His time to shine.

“Arkansas finished with a season-high 481 yards after firing offensive coordinator Dan Enos and naming receivers coach Kenny Guiton the interim play caller two weeks ago. Guiton tweaked parts of the offense during the team's bye week, and the Razorbacks looked nothing like the team that averaged 227 yards in its previous four games”.

Questions you'd ask Ryan Day on Tuesday (Sparty week)

Suppose you get a Tim May sized time slot (3ish questions) to ask Ryan Day questions on Tuesday. What would you ask? Keep in mind you're actually talking to him in a public forum and you're trying to ask a pointed question to get a truthful answer.

1. With regard to special teams, there's been multiple times over the last few years where there's been issues on Special Teams in meaningful spots that "can't happen". Poor execution and miscommunication are commonly cited as the causes, when is it time to look at a special teams coaching change?

2. The slow starts offensively are no longer outliers, they're a trend. What can you from a coaching perspective do to mix things up to try to find something that allows the offense to get off to a faster start?

3. Trey has been playing great and is a huge part of the success on offense. His health is essential if you want to accomplish your goals. Why is there a lack of a rotation in games that would allow him to take less hits and keep him fresh especially when the game is "in hand"?

Injuries

We are down so many. Malik Hartford looked lost for a few plays then looked great in coverage on the last few. Fryar, Eichenberg, Proctor, even JT looked dinged. Wonder if we will hear the status of any of these? Silver lining would be to develop depth before Michigan. Hopefully we will be back at full strength by then.

TE Outlook

Lots of question marks in this room. The '25 room may be the most talented TE room we've ever had, but the talent is very young. What is the outlook for next year?

Cade Stover - Gone

Scott - probably back?

Royer - who knows? he's rarely available anyway

Christian - will he be back?

Hart - never plays

Thurman - most talented guy in the room, but will day/hartline/Bailey trust him enough to play him?

Some thoughts on Payton Pierce

What's up guys! Stopping by from the national team.

I was out to see Ohio State LB commit Payton Pierce last night in his final regular season game. It was for the district title against the top team in the classification, so it was a big one. And Pierce more than showed up.

He ran a touchdown for the first points of the game in the first quarter. Lovejoy likes to use Pierce in packages at short-yardage RB and wildcat QB situations, and he often succeeds in that role. He's not afraid to initiate the contact on either side of the ball.

Defensively, Pierce reminded everybody in attendance how good he is when he's fully healthy. The Rivals250 LB struggled with injuries as a junior but he was all over the field on Thursday night. Getting after the QB, blowing up plays in the backfield, dropping back in coverage, you name it. He took over that game and was a primary reason why Melissa, who entered the game at 9-0, only scored one touchdown.

Just wanted to pass along some thoughts after seeing him live. Ohio State is getting a really good one and Pierce told me he's eager to get up to Columbus

Defending the Rutgers trick play threat

No one will be shocked if Rutgers tries 7 trick plays on Saturday. Depending on the situation, and the score, it should not be considered a failure by Ohio State if Rutgers is successful once.
Just because Rutgers succeeds once doesn't mean they score. A success might mean they get a first down on a third and four play when the score is 21 to 0. That doesn't mean the Buckeye defense was fooled. A QB draw play might be just as successful.
The Bucks will likely keep their defense on the field for every fourth down play, unless it is fourth and 25 from the Rutgers 20-yard line. Rutgers might not consider a trick play a smart play in that situation.
Rutgers might try to block a Mirco punt. Just be prepared for a hard rush. Kickoff returns, watch for onside kicks, reverses and cross-field laterals. Just have Fielding kick the ball 5-yards deep into the end zone.
If the score is 35-6 in the fourth quarter and Rutgers runs three trick plays in a row, so what? I'm guessing Rutgers won't try more than one. They just want the Bucks to be mindful that it is a possibility.

Chat with UM colleagues

I spoke with two UM colleagues. Separate conversations. Perhaps notably, both have asked me to NOT contact them via their university emails or any other university-managed devices. (While both work broadly in the UM athletics space, neither works directly in the service of any single sport or program). To my ear, there was nothing new, major, or groundbreaking to share. They agree on the following points: 1. UM is not going to do ANYTHING until it receives a formal notice of allegations from a governing body. Not. A. Thing. And, why would they? 2. Santa Ono likes Harbaugh. Their families get along. His wife, Wendy, is a non-practicing attorney and is of the professional mindset that one does not launch a defense until one has been charged. These aren't stupid people. To the contrary, they are exceptionally smart people. Both UM colleagues made a point of noting, "Jim isn't dumb. He knows who butters his bread, and it's not Warde." Harbaugh's MO is to ingratiate himself with executive leadership before inevitably alienating these same once-advocates. Ono has barely been at UM for 15 months. He's not in any position to rock the boat, and would prefer that this matter "works itself out." 3. Warde Manuel is much more vulnerable at UM than is Harbaugh. Ono is closer to Harbaugh than Manuel. 4. The UM BOR is split. Well, not split - more like 5/3 favoring the Harbaugh narrative. However, they are unanimous in that nothing should be done internally unless or until a formal notice of allegations has been served. 5. The ongoing criminal investigation into Weiss provides coverage for the veil of silence from UM administration. They can rightfully claim silence as an appropriate course of inaction lest they risk hindering a criminal investigation. (Editorial: It seems contrived to me that one hand can claim the Weiss matter "unrelated" while the other hand puts it forth as justification for inaction and silence.) 6. The UM administration and, in particular, its lawyers would very much like for Harbaugh to sign a superseding agreement. The money doesn't really matter - especially if they have limited expectations of paying the contract's full term and value. In their minds, the most likely scenario is that the hammer drops either late next year or in 1Q 2025. At that time, they will have paid Harbaugh what amounts to his current contract value plus allowed him to recoup what he feels was lost in 21/22/23. It's effectively a neutral compensation proposition for this season and next season (if one contemplates the delta between approximately $11M next year and his current annual contract value as equivalent to the "below market value" under which he will have worked 21/22/23. 7. "Let's face it: We're going 7-5 next year. Have you looked at our schedule? No one will care if Harbaugh slinks away at the end of next year. This is THE year that everyone here cares about. We're fundraising like crazy. The NCAA isn't even the regulatory authority over the postseason and we're not making the playoffs in 24 or 25 anyway. So, hit us with a two-year bowl ban. Big deal. There is no real risk to just waiting it out. As long as Harbaugh denies and otherwise stays silent, everyone here would prefer to believe him because the alternative obligates us to take action."

Again, nothing new or particularly revelatory.

Propaganda in a Nutshell

Years and years of right wing narratives virtue signaling about Portland.

Crime hysteria based on the repetitive right wing grooming…

Ignoring the real causes and failures by police, all for politics. Sad.

RE: Let Michigan play...

The entire starting lineup for Michigan is used to knowing all the signals, they are used to knowing the protection scheme and routes on a pass play making calling the right defense for the play much easier to defend. They know where to go at the snap of the ball. On running plays they know where the hole is supposed to be they know if it's a run to the right or left. When the ball is snapped, the player goes to where he is supposed to be... what happens if you haven't played in a game since HS where you had to have great instincts and exceptional eye discipline? When you have to rely on your discipline and assignment responsibilities.

Mark it down now... Penn State will beat Michigan. Maryland may pull off the big upset as well. OSU will get its revenge!!! Michigan loses 3 out of its last 4

As far as signals, you platoon and send the signals that way. They can send 2 plays and they can just raise 1 arm for run play 1 and 2 for run play 2
